UNDERSTANDING RESPIRATORY DRIVE IN MECHANICALLY VENTIATED PATIENT AND CLINICAL OUTCOME
Sim Wen Yuan
Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore
Over the last few years, there has been an emerging interest in the assessment and modulation of respiratory drive and effort in patients receiving mechanical ventilation. This presentation will delve into the assessment of drive and effort, focusing on the use of occlusion manoeuvres that are easily performed on most ventilators. It will also deal with the determinants of drive and effort, and aim to equip the attendee with interventions that can modulate drive and effort when they are insufficient or excessive, so as to achieve ventilation that is lung-protective as well as diaphragm-protective.
