Bronchiectasis represents a chronic respiratory disease of high prevalence in Asian populations, characterized by a permanent, irreversible and progressive dilatation of the airways. Pathogenesis has evolved from a vicious cycle to vicious vortex allowing the consideration of new approaches and range of novel therapeutics that may be applied at the individual level. Clinical heterogeneity has hampered clinical trial success and the availability of treatment options; however, this is rapidly changing with a significant increase in global registries; exponential growth in the quantity and quality of bronchiectasis research including a paradigm shift in thinking of the disease as inflammatory rather than infective. This talk will summarize the past, present and future of bronchiectasis care and present practical models by which the latest research developments translate into a precision medicine approach for improved treatment.
