Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are changing academic research and scholarly publishing and this has created new opportunities to improve methods, speed up discovery, and access to knowledge. This presentation provides a practical ‘how-to’ for integrating AI throughout the research process by examining its potential impact and implementation for the academic community. I identify four key areas: strengthening research capabilities, speeding up publication processes, improving collaboration networks, and increasing research influence. Drawing from various fields of study, I present practical strategies for using AI in literature review automation, hypothesis generation, experimental design, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and peer review. The presentation addresses implementation challenges including technical difficulties, institutional resistance, and skill gaps, while providing practical recommendations. Furthermore, I examine questions related to AI-assisted research by exploring how these technologies challenge traditional ideas about authorship, creativity, and scientific validity. Particular attention focuses on ethical considerations including transparency, reproducibility, reducing bias, and academic integrity. I reason for a balanced approach that maximizes AI capability while maintaining high quality academic standards. The presentation also proposes a collaboration that uses both strengths effectively. The framework concludes with perspectives on innovative technologies and their effect on future research practices with attention on flexible approaches and continuous learning. This guide aims to equip researchers with knowledge and resources necessary to effectively use AI while managing the challenges that come with its application.
