Bronchiectasis in children is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The aim of treatment is to optimise lung growth, preserve lung function, enhance quality of life, minimize exacerbations and reverse of lung injury if possible.
The optimal management and treatment of children with bronchiectasis requires a multidiciplinary approach. Although there is still a large knowledge gap and challenges in managing bronchiectasis in children, the best available evidence can be used to improve the lives of children with bronchiectasis and their families. Management and treatment strategies during stable state includes airway clearence techniques, mucoactive agents, pulmonary rehabilitation, vaccination, long term antibiotics prophylaxis, bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid.
